Prof. Wayne Stark and Changhun Bae receive 2011 JCN Best Paper Award
Stark’s research relates to wireless networks and understanding their fundamental limits in terms of energy efficiency and bandwidth efficiency.
Published research related to energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks has been named the 2011 Journal of Communications and Network (JCN) Best Paper among all articles appearing in the journal during 2010. The article, “Minimum Energy-per-Bit Wireless Multi-Hop Networks with Spatial Reuse,” by Changhun Bae (PhD EE:Systems 2010) and Prof. Wayne E. Stark was originally published in the April 2010 Special Issue of JCN.
The research relates to wireless networks and understanding their fundamental limits in terms of energy efficiency and bandwidth efficiency. This has been well understood for point-to-point communication systems. The paper considers the fundamental limits for networks involving relays. Relays are necessary in certain applications where direct transmission requires too much energy. The primary intended application is for sensor networks.
Prof. Stark will receive an award for the paper at a special awards ceremony during the next IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC2011), in Kyoto, Japan.
